Hi all, my name is John. You have come to my blog about rock music. I’ve been making music myself for over 10 years, writing songs, and performing with my local band in restaurants and bars. In this blog I talk about rock music, rock musicians and bands. Now a little history.
Every one of us has heard at least once in our lives that rock is the music of freedom. It encompasses many genres and subgenres, is performed in underpasses and large-scale concert venues, and is listened to by people of all ages. But what is the reason for such popularity?
The origins of rock music should be sought in the blues, from which the first genres emerged: rock ‘n’ roll and rockabilly. Rock music itself originated in the ’50s, when Chuck Berry started the style in lyrics, guitar playing and image. Also worth mentioning is guitarist Link Ray, who was the first to use the fuzz or overdrive effect in his composition “Rumble,” which is where all the “heavy” trends came from.
The sixties are, of course, The Beatles. These brave guys could conquer the whole world with their lyrics and guitar playing. Their contribution not only to rock, but to world music in general, is invaluable. Even after the band broke up in 1970 they continued to put out quality music and compositions, many of which are absolute masterpieces. For example, John Lennon’s song “Imagine”. Thanks to the popularity of the Liverpool Four, the so-called garage rock bands began to appear, who sang The Beatles or tried to write their own lyrics and music, but with an eye on them.
And then it started: goths, metallers, rockers, alternative, emo, cybers… Whatever trends rock music had. It was adjusted to the time and place, there are directions for all tastes and colors. It’s hard to imagine that the Goths, lovers of 19th century Gothic literature, full of mysticism and all sorts of evil, dark people who wear dark clothes and adore cemeteries, and hippies, children of flowers, advocating peace in the world, pacifists, promoting love – all this is rock music. At the same time, their cultures share common roots, a common history. The diversity of genres allowed rock to reach a large audience.
